75th International Retail Summit
10 - 11 September 2025
Nearconomy: Trust Beyond Transactions
Consumers have become thriftier – not just in terms of their spending, but above all the amount of time they spend shopping. Consumers have become more erratic: hybrid working and living is resulting in new patterns of movement and spending habits, while everyday consumer spending is shifting and changing too. Consumers are feeling a greater sense of insecurity – when large systems become vulnerable and seemingly solid foundations begin to falter, a greater need for dependability emerges.
These changes in consumer behaviour make for a challenging retail environment. To prevail in the face of global e-commerce giants, European discounters and systemic disruptions, proximity is proving a crucial success factor – physical proximity through local presence, emotional proximity through personal bonds and digital proximity through seamless customer journeys. But how can proximity be achieved in the age of hybrid realities? And how do you ensure that the focus remains on the customer when faced with geopolitical and technological upheaval?
At the 75th International Retail Summit, we will be engaging in discussions with visionary thinkers, pioneers and retail professionals to explore how retailers can achieve greater customer proximity physically, digitally and emotionally and then leverage this to gain competitive advantages. The following key questions will be explored:
- How can new store formats, logistics concepts and omnichannel services create a local presence and personal connections in hybrid living realities?
- Which technologies can help to forge personal relationships in e-commerce?
- How can retailers differentiate themselves from global e-commerce providers by focusing on regional ties and value?
- How can retailers establish friendships with their customers?
- How can retailers build trust and loyalty by assuming social and environmental responsibility?
International Retail Summit
The leading retail summit is a relevant event for all decision-makers hoping to gain a new competitive advantages in a challenging market environment through proximity and personal connections and build customer relationships of trust that go beyond pure transactions.
The International Retail Summit will be held in German and English (with simultaneous interpretation).
