"Today, we're witnessing the beginning of an incredible revolution. A clean meat revolution", says Paul Shapiro, best-selling author of "Clean Meat: How Growing Meat Without Animals Will Revolutionize Dinner and the World” and CEO of The Better Meat Co. “If the problem is, we're raising too many animals for food, then the solution may lie within those animals themselves, within their very cells."

Cellular agriculture is key to this revolution. Animals are no longer part of the production – besides the extraction of stem cells. Breeding, fattening, slaughtering and processing are being replaced by protein factories with bioreactors in which stem cells are grown. The aim is to produce meat, fish, eggs and dairy products in a way that is not only more sustainable and animal-friendly, but also more cost-effective.

According to Ann Veneman, former executive director of UNICEF, "Paul Shapiro provides a fascinating look at the future of food and the innovators who are working to interrupt and reinvent the food system."

Paul Shapiro is the bestselling author of "Clean Meat: How Growing Meat Without Animals Will Revolutionize Dinner and the World". He will be keynote speaker at the GDI’s 1st International Food Innovation Conference in June.
