Dr Jakub Samochowiec’s work explores the challenges and opportunities that generative AI presents for the world of work. In studies such as 'Future skills' and 'Strategies for dealing with the labour shortage,' he has illustrated how we can prepare for the challenges of a future shaped by AI and outlined the ways in which the current lack of sufficient skilled labour can be tackled.
At the 21th European Trend Day, Samochowiec, who holds a doctorate in social psychology, will give a presentation entitled 'Working with or for AI?' in which he will underline the need to enhance our self-determination and creativity capabilities so that we can not only use generative AI, but also embrace it as a tool for self-development. Here he will refer to art history, from which we can learn how creative processes are influenced by technological developments.
However, Samochowiec also warns that while some people are leveraging this technology's potential, many others may be forced into passive roles working for machines instead of actively shaping developments themselves. Such potential inequality is a wake-up call. How can we ensure everyone develops the skills needed to thrive in this new world? The ethical and social implications are far-reaching and call for proactive analysis of the issue.
At the Trend Day, Samochowiec will also present current examples highlighting various conceptions of humanity behind the use of AI. The discussion will not just cover technological aspects, but also the social and cultural dimensions of human-machine interaction.
