Location, location, location – physical space has always been seen as the key to success, both in retail and other sectors. At home or at work, in Moscow or Montauk – we are where we are.
But now, digitalisation is redefining space. Increasingly, our physical surroundings are being superimposed by virtual parallel worlds. Streets, rooms and buildings are becoming interactive – Pokémon Go is just the beginning. And real places are being converted too: in Samsungs' flagship store in New York, for example, it is no longer possible to buy products. The consequences of this development are still unclear:
- What will the life and consumption patterns of tomorrow look like?
- Why leave the house when you can get everything delivered to you?
- How do people meet up?
- What should we do with retail spaces that no longer attract visitors?
- What is the significance of places and spaces – where will people feel comfortable?
On 15 March 2017, we will be discussing the significance and potential of digitally augmented locations.
