Future Meetups: How We'll Get Together From Now On


From conferences and concerts to romantic dates: meetups usually take place face to face. However, the coronavirus pandemic has made this difficult. Physical proximity is now risky. The consequences are reverberating through countless industries, from catering to tourism and trade fairs to universities, through to the entertainment sector with its sporting events, cinemas and parties.

In this sense, COVID-19 has simply accelerated a development that has already long been underway. Remote working and after-work drinks on Zoom were only the beginning. The rapid pace of technological development is continually creating new ways to meet up with people. Many cultural performances have already moved online, and gaming and e-sports platforms are booming. Ultimately, we will have more ways to meet up than ever before. This will change us as people; intimacy and the value of social activities will be redefined.

At the 17th European Trend Day, we will present the most remarkable developments and gauge how and where we will meet up in future. We will discuss questions such as:

  • People need people: how will we enable vibes, productivity and creativity in future?
  • Where will physical contact remain essential?
  • How will we allure somebody, flirt, apply for a job?
  • Commuting, open-plan offices, packed exhibitions: how will meeting places be reconfigured?
  • How will social distancing change the ways we behave, how will we live together?

Corona

As face-to-face events are still prohibited in Switzerland because of Covid-19, this year's GDI Trend Day will take place online only and be livestreamed. You will get the opportunity to exchange ideas with other participants during the breaks via online networking.

Noreena Hertz

Great Britain

Economist, bestselling author and named as “one of the world’s leading thinkers” by “The Observer”. In her latest book, “The Lonely Century”, Hertz examines the rise of loneliness in the 21st century and how it can be overcome. She is also an Honorary Professor at the UCL Institute for Global Prosperity and sits on the board of Warner Music Group.

Damiano Cerrone

Finland

Consultant at DEMOS Helsinki, an independent think tank aiming to build sustainable and fair post-industrial societies. Cerrone's personal research leverages digital footprints to study new urban design solutions, with the ultimate goal of retrofitting inner cities for the needs of contemporary life. At DEMOS, he works with the Urban Transformation team, focusing on the development of multi-stakeholder strategies with public administrations and industry.


Sarah Kenderdine

Switzerland

Christoph Stadtfeld

Switzerland

Associate Professor of Social Networks at ETH Zürich. Stadtfeld holds a PhD from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and has been a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Groningen, the Social Network Analysis Research Center in Lugano, and the MIT Media Lab. His research focuses on the development and application of theories and methods for social network dynamics.


Monisha Kaltenborn

Germany

CEO at Racing Unleashed. Kaltenborn is a lawyer, motorsport functionary and former racing team owner. She was the first female team principal in Formula 1 - 2010 to 2017 for Sauber Motorsport. Since 2018, she has led Racing Unleashed, an international e-sports company that offers a realistic Formula One experience through a network of simulators and racing lounges.

Salar Shahna

Switzerland

Active in the film industry since 2008, Salar shifted to Virtual Reality in 2014, working on "Sequenced", an interactive series for virtual reality headsets where characters and environment react to the user’s presence in each scene. Since 2016, he has initiated a global hub for Extended Reality. Shahna's production company "Dirty Bacon" is specialised in telling stories through film and Virtual Reality.

Tino Krause

Germany

Country Director DACH at Facebook since 2019. Krause heads the company's business development in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. He held various management positions as CEO at MediaCom, Germany's biggest media agency, overseeing the strategic development of the company and driving customer expansion and as COO and CEO at Wavemaker, amongst others.

Camilla Pang

Great Britain

Postdoctoral scientist and author of the book "Explaining Humans: What science can teach us about life, love and relationships". It’s a memoir that uses scientific principles to understand human behaviour through the lens of someone who has autism and ADHD. The book has won the Royal Society Insight Investment Science Book Prize 2020.

Fredrik Carlström

Sweden

Founder of real estate investment and management company Another Structure. Carlström is a design-focused real estate developer dedicated to building spaces that foster creativity and innovations. Carlström fuses experience from hospitality, design, technology and branding in his projects. He is the founder of Alma, a co-working space described by Surface Magazine as “the anti-WeWork”.

David Bosshart

Switzerland

Dr. David Bosshart was CEO of the GDI Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute for consumption, economic and social studies from 1999 to 2020. Since 2020 he has been President of the Gottlieb and Adele Duttweiler Foundation.

Der Europäische Trendtag ist eine Konferenz zu Digitalisierung und Gesellschaft. Mit wechselndem Fokus-Thema werden technologische Innovationen und ihre Auswirkungen auf Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft diskutiert. Die Referenten erkunden neue Möglichkeitsräume des heute noch Undenkbaren und Unvorstellbaren.
