Douglas Rushkoff: “Being human is a team sport”

Douglas Rushkoff highlighted the importance of community at the 21st European Trend Day. In a video interview, he outlined the challenges presented by AI and how humans can maintain their independence.

In terms of performance and productivity, machine systems almost always outperform humans. However, Douglas Rushkoff, Professor of Media Theory and Digital Economics at the City University of New York, thinks huge problems lie ahead if AI is deployed for surveillance and exploitation purposes. To maintain our independence, Rushkoff believes we must learn to reconnect with one another and invest in our local communities: “Being human, being alive is a team sport. We’ve convinced ourselves that it’s something one does alone, but it’s not.”
