Richard Bergfors has been CEO of Max Burgers, Europe’s oldest burger chain, since 2002. The Swedish family business was founded by Bergfors’ parents in 1968. Max says it wants to become the best burger chain in the world by serving the tastiest burgers while also having a positive impact on society. But what do you do when your company’s main product is a climate killer?
Back in 2008, Max started climate labelling its menu and compensating for all emissions along the entire value chain. As a result, Max’s food range has been climate-positive since 2018. This means that the company compensates for more greenhouse gases than it emits.
